Yiddish is alive and kicking among Hasidim. Everyone's Yiddish can be enriched by reading or listening to stories, debates, or poetry in the Hasidic Yiddish of today. This lecture will provide examples of Yiddish-language Hasidic creativity in internet forums, podcasts, and in print, including Der Veker, a Hasidic journal in which Justin (Yankev) Jaron Lewis has published articles.

Dr. Justin Jaron Lewis is a scholar of early Yiddish literature and Hasidic Judaism, especially its storytelling tradition. He is the author of Imagining Holiness: Classic Hasidic Tales in Modern Times (2009), and translator of Many Pious Women (2011), a Yiddish manuscript from Renaissance Italy in praise of women. He is an Associate Professor in the Department of Religion at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg.
