On the Waves of Destiny: The Selected Writings of Lili Berger

Date: Sunday, September 7, 2025, 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm ET

Location: Tamari Hall, Lipa Green Centre, 4600 Bathurst St

This selection of elegant translations introduces novelist, literary critic, and essayist Lili Berger. She wrote about the most transformative and traumatic developments of the 20th century, to which she herself was an eyewitness. Because almost all of her works were written in Yiddish and never before translated into any other language, Lili Berger is little known today. This volume will finally make her work available to a new readership in the English-speaking world and beyond.

The event will feature remarks from the translators and editors. Copies of the book will be available for purchase. Light refreshments will be served—kashrut observed.

Translators and editors in attendance at the book launch:
Sam Blatt
Vivian Felsen
Judy Nisenholt
Linda/Leye Lipsky

Translators who also contributed to this work:
Frieda Forman
Ronnie Jaeger
Sylvia Lustgarten
