AS PART OF JEWISH MUSIC WEEK IN TORONTO, CFY IS PROUD TO SUPPORT A MUSICAL PROGRAM WITH SCHOLAR AND ENTERTAINER
JANIE RESPITZ
"Itzik Manger: A Modern Troubadour"
What a terrific way to start your day! The great Itzik Manger, prominent Yiddish poet and playwright, never felt complete or at home, yet he made his readers and listeners feel so comfortable with his writings. How could such a lonely and sad man make people feel so joyful and glad through his poetry and songs? Janie Respitz explores this topic in a fascinating morning presentation, beginning with the story of Manger’s life. After that, we’ll examine, discuss and SING: Oyfn Veg Shteyt A Boym, Rabbenu Tam, Tsigayner, Yidl Mitn Fidl, Eynzam, and a few sample songs from Manger’s Megilleh.
