Toronto Workmen's Circle Foundation and the UJA Commitee for Yiddish Present an Online Talk with MIRIAM BORDEN
Yiddish Lullabies:
Singing the Unspeakable
Presented Live on Zoom, Sunday February 23rd, 2025
Please note: The recording will only be available until March 10, 2025.
In the entire corpus of Yiddish folk songs, viglider (lullabies) form the largest genre: there are hundreds of lullabies on dozens of themes. Some are well known; many others are not. In this talk, Miriam Borden explores some lesser-known Yiddish lullabies and suggests the reason this genre has remained so compelling for Yiddish writers, singers, and scholars for generations.
